Plot summary

In Turkey, more than one in three women have experienced domestic violence, and femicides are rising. Lawyer Ipek Bozkurt and a group of activists work to put abusive men behind bars, against courts that hand down light sentences and a government cracking down on dissent. Arzu, married off at fourteen to a farmer ten years older, asked for a divorce; her husband fired seven shotgun shells at her, and she lost the use of her arms and both legs. Her children were taken into care, and she must rebuild her life to regain custody. Kubra, a television presenter, was assaulted by her husband two days after she gave birth; a brain hemorrhage cost her the ability to speak and walk. He denies the attack and has kept their daughter, so Kubra undergoes speech therapy to testify against him.
