Plot summary
Sarah is depressed, drinking heavily, stuck in a lackluster relationship with her boyfriend Peter and weary of her mother's pestering. One morning she wakes to a blood-soaked bed and learns that her illness is terminal. To spare the people she cares about the pain of losing her, she arranges for a clone to be made and trained to take her place after she dies. The double is given only the basics of Sarah's interests and habits, and develops a personality of her own. Ten months on, Sarah's illness goes into full remission. Her attempt to have the clone decommissioned fails, and because the double wants to stay alive, the law requires the two of them to meet in a publicized duel to the death.

- Dual was announced in April 2020 with Jesse Eisenberg cast alongside Karen Gillan, Aaron Paul and Beulah Koale, but three months later Theo James had replaced Eisenberg.
- Because the COVID-19 pandemic in America stopped the crew finding a suitable location in Canada or New Zealand, Finland was chosen as the place to shoot Dual.
- The making of Dual led the City of Tampere and Film Tampere to sign an agreement with XYZ Films for future productions, and the same collaboration produced an international short film competition, Generation XYZ, for the 2021 Tampere Film Festival.
