Plot summary
Nirmala is pregnant, and her husband Gannu, the biggest loafer in the town of Jagodhar, drinks heavily. She vows to abort the baby because of his alcoholism, and Gannu's answer is a demand that alcohol be banned throughout Jagodhar. He takes up that cause while his own craving for drink goes on. Support for the ban spreads among the townspeople, and Gannu still has ties to Dauji, a political figure in the town. His aim is the unborn child he wants to save.
