Biography

Ewan Hooper was a Scottish actor, born in Dundee, who studied at RADA and later became an associate member there. He was a leading figure in setting up Greenwich Theatre, which launched in 1969, and he founded the Scottish Theatre Company in Glasgow during the 1980s. On screen he was best known for playing a priest in the film Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968), and he was also known for the recurring part of Camp Controller Alec Foster in Hi-de-Hi! He appeared as Sergeant Moran in a 1966 episode of The Avengers called What the Butler Saw, and as Detective Sergeant Smith in the 1970s series Hunters Walk. His stage career at Manchester's Royal Exchange included Leonato in Much Ado About Nothing, a part that earned him a MEN Award.
