Plot summary
Dr. Otto VonSchnick has a hand attached to the top of his head and a plan to rule the world. His gloom beam, an electromagnetic device, strikes financial institutions, erases what they hold and throws the world's money into chaos. After he hijacks a broadcast to pose the Riddle of the Gloom Beam, a bank in Cincinnati reaches for the one man it thinks can stop him: Lance Sterling, born the same day as Dr. Otto in the same hospital. With Doris Talbot at his side, Lance goes after the villain, who answers with a changing coffin that turns him into one character after another, among them Rudd Hardtact, Laughin' Jack, Auntie Nelda and the wealthy playboy Guy Dandy.
