Plot summary
Compiled from drone and hidden-camera footage, an Australian documentary sets out to expose the treatment of animals in the country's livestock and other animal abuse industries and to press the case for animal rights. It shows methods such as gassing pigs with carbon dioxide, macerating chicks and skinning foxes alive, with agricultural livestock central to its subject. Crowdfunding campaigns and an Australian animal rights group paid for the production, which an animal protection organization managed. The film was made as a feature-length follow-up to Lucent (2014), which dealt mostly with pig farming in Australia, and it premiered in Melbourne. Farming bodies objected to its portrayal of their industry; an industry council chief executive called it unrepresentative of wider practice, and a farmers' federation president allowed there was room for improvement on animal welfare.
