Plot summary
Kira lives in Ukraine during the final years of the Soviet Union, and she carries the teenage certainty that the world turns around her. Her days look settled, her future easy to read. That confidence breaks when she learns that her father has another woman in his life, and that her mother has known about it and has chosen not to speak. The household she grew up in starts to come apart while the country around it does too, and the life she thought she understood stops making sense to her. Kira wants love, warmth and something to hope for, and she sets out to find them.
