Plot summary
Paleontologist Sue Hendrickson is on a dig near Faith, South Dakota, with Pete Larson and the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research team when they uncover a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton, the largest and most complete one found to date. The specimen is nicknamed Sue. Two years later, federal officials seize the fossil from the institute and say the bones came from federal land. Maurice Williams owns the property where the excavation took place, and the FBI, the National Park Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs enter the dispute. A legal fight over who owns Sue runs for ten years.
