Plot summary
Twenty students at an elite high school in Seoul take part in a special class meant to prepare them for a college exam. Kang I-na is rebellious; her best friend is Yoon Myong-heo, and Kang Hyun, the class clown, is fond of her. Their teachers, Hwang Chang-wook and Choi So-yeong, are with them when a television switches on and shows the top-ranking student, Min Hye-yeong, trapped in a glass case that is slowly filling with water. A voice over the public address system declares that the class is now taking part in a death game, that questions will be put to them, and that a student dies when an answer comes too late. The voice also warns the students and their teachers not to leave the school.

- Post-production on Death Bell was rushed so the film would be ready for its July 2008 premiere at the 12th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival, and director Chang had to apologise for the poor state in which it was shown.
- Death Bell was the only Korean horror film released over the summer of 2008, and it was the first feature by Chang, a former music video director who also co-wrote the screenplay.
