Plot summary
In 1897 a demon conjured a bed for the woman he loved. She died as they lay together, and his tears of blood touched the bed and woke it to a life of its own, spent feeding on whoever lies down. The bed is deadly while the demon is awake and inert through the roughly ten-year stretches when he sleeps. Only the artist Aubrey Beardsley was spared: the bed keeps him immortal behind a painting, watching it eat. Ownership of the bed has passed down through the generations. A young couple slip into the deserted mansion that holds it, and three women, Diane, Sharon and Suzan, come across the place while on a trip through the countryside.
