Plot summary
Jake Burton takes his cue from the Snurfer, a strip of wood shaped like a surfboard, and builds his first snowboard in 1977 as an inexpensive alternative to skiing. He goes on to make boards that do more and urges ski resorts, sponsors and world-class athletes to take up the sport the media calls the worst new sport. Family, friends and fellow snowboarders speak in the documentary, which also uses home movies and archive material. Each year his company's catalogs open with a page addressed to his riders, and lines from those pages are narrated.
