Plot summary
Wala Wala is a small, mainly Aboriginal town in the desert of outback Australia, where Aboriginal residents and the white settlers who live among them have long been at odds and the tension is close to erupting. The trouble begins with a death in custody: an Aboriginal man held in the police lock-up is found dead. Ray Lorkin, the chief lawman, allows Mannga, the dead man's father, to take a payback in the hope of restoring order. Each of the townspeople, among them David, the town's Aboriginal pastor, has to work out how Aboriginal tradition and contemporary Australian law can stand together.
