Plot summary
Janet Smith arrives at an English manor house with her fiancé George Hastings the day before she turns twenty-one and comes into her inheritance. There she meets the housekeeper Mrs. Merchant, the groundskeeper Jacob, and her maid Maggie, along with Dr. Lomas, her guardian. Janet tells Lomas that she and George mean to marry soon. He calls the plan rash and promises that morning will bring one more inheritance to explain. Janet and George find a hidden laboratory, and Lomas takes them to the family tomb, where he tells Janet that she is the daughter of Dr. Henry Jekyll and may have inherited his condition. When Maggie and another young woman are found killed, Janet fears she is the one who did it.

- For the nightmare scenes in the film, director Edgar G. Ulmer shot in a wooded area that had recently burned and used ultraviolet film to create an unreal look.
- Gloria Talbott said the shoot lasted "something like five to seven days" and that most filming was not on a stage but in a house on 6th Street in Los Angeles, where passing traffic can be seen through windows in interior shots.
- Daughter of Dr. Jekyll is one of only three werewolf movies made in the US during the 1950s, the other two being The Werewolf (1956) and I Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957).

The film repeats the same scene at the end, this time with "Are you sure?" asked in a more masculine-sounding voice; film scholar Phil Hardy speculated this was done in the belief it would be the first film in a series, which it was not.- Reflecting the low budget, the screams heard during the film's nightmare scenes were not recorded for it but taken from a sound effects library.
