Plot summary

In hell, Veronica talks out of turn and questions the demon way of things, and punishment follows punishment. Her father, Hellikan, grows tired of it, and her mother, Theresa, steps between them. Veronica escapes with her hellhound, Hellraiser, and her friend Mary shows her a hidden passage to the world above. She comes up through the sewers into a city, and her demon shape falls away, leaving her human in appearance and naked. She finds clothes, then a car hits her. Dr. Max Barris, at a hospital nearby, sees the accident and treats her. Her manner is strange, and he finds himself drawn to her anyway. She has no other place to stay and talks him into taking her into his house.
