Trailer

Plot summary

The rivalry between Nintendo and Sega in the late 1980s and early 1990s is the subject of the documentary. Executives, marketers and communications staff from Sega of America and Nintendo of America give interviews about the contest for the home console market. Sega's staff at the time included its president and chief executive, its marketing directors and its head of communications. The documentary traces the strategies the company used against Nintendo, and archival footage of the period, converted from an older video format, appears alongside the interviews. The project is based on a 2014 book about the console wars. The conflict is described as Sonic against Mario, kids against grownups, and American capitalism against centuries-old Japanese tradition.
