Plot summary

The documentary is built from a series of conversations and interviews, and it takes the American wilderness as its subject. It approaches the land through the work of a photographer who is also a physician, and says that what results is a portrait of the wilderness and of the relationships people have with one another. Running through it is a question about photographs: what happens when all that is left is a photograph. Art and nature are treated as fragile things, and the film holds out the possibility that nature itself is what people need in order to find common ground.
