Plot summary
In the early 1930s, before World War II erupts, Manchukuo is the Japanese puppet state in northeastern China. Four Chinese Communist Party agents parachute into Harbin for a secret operation code-named Utrenya, meant to bring out a former prisoner who can expose to the international community the crimes of the Imperial Japanese Army, among them the human experiments of Unit 731. Zhang Xianchen, his wife and comrade Wang Yu, Chu Liang and Chu's girlfriend Xiao Lan separate into two groups so that the capture of one cannot break the mission. Each receives a pill to swallow if capture becomes unavoidable. Gao Bin commands the enemy side, along with his henchmen.
