Plot summary
Jashan proposes to Thea in Los Angeles at the start of December, and she says yes. She asks him to come to Telemark and meet her family over Christmas, and says nothing about the engagement, unsure how her relatives will take a Hindu fiancé from India. When the pair arrive, her mother Anne-Lise is startled. Jashan compliments the house and its decorations, though he slips up a little. He calls her mamma after she turns down the word auntie. Anne-Lise tells Thea that the neighbor Jørgen, her ex, misses her, and remarks on how different Jashan's culture is. Thea asks Jashan to wait before they announce their engagement. Her brother Simen turns up with Hildegunn, his pregnant wife, and their daughter Ronja.
