Chocolate Lizards (2019) on Netflix

Plot summary

Erwin Vandeveer, a Harvard graduate who wants to act, is thrown off the set of his first film after he disrupts a shoot. Traveling through Texas, he ends up stuck in oil country when his car quits and he cannot pay for repairs, so he takes temporary work with Merle, a local driller. Faye works alongside Merle. The drilling project is failing, a bank and a corrupt oil company are pressing the business, and Merle talks Erwin into pretending to be an oil expert to keep the operation alive, which puts Erwin's acting skill to use away from a camera.
