Plot summary
Hemingford, Nebraska takes in the surviving children of Gatlin and tries to give them new lives, unaware that the children slip back to the cornfield where Micah is possessed by He Who Walks Behind the Rows, the entity the cult worships. John Garrett, a city reporter whose career is failing, comes to write about the children, with his son Danny, and the two quarrel over what went wrong between John and Danny's mother. John meets Angela Casual, who runs a bed and breakfast. Danny, keeping his distance from his father, befriends Lacey, a local orphan girl who tells him about Gatlin.

- During the North Carolina shoot, a local Christian group staged low-key protests against the film, and director David Price was left a dead rodent on his doorstep as a warning. The production responded by building its own church for a few scenes.

The ending was rewritten at the last minute: it originally had reporter John Garrett calling his tabloid from a phone booth beside the cornfield, only for He Who Walks Behind the Rows to swallow the booth into the earth and kill him. Budget constraints scrapped that scene.- The scene in which Micah and the children burn the town elders was shot in a real home at Asheboro St. and Luther Ave. in Liberty, North Carolina. The house was burned down for the film, and a vacant lot remains where it stood.
- Children of the Corn II was the last film in the series to get a theatrical release until 2023, with every sequel in between going straight to video.
