Charlie's Country (2013) on Netflix

Plot summary

Charlie is an Aboriginal man who is getting older and out of sorts in his remote community in Arnhem Land, in Australia's Northern Territory. He paints tree bark and fishes for barramundi, and he feels out of place in a country that is no longer his. The intervention has brought whitefella laws and police into the community, rules that make little sense to him, while his relatives seem readier to go along with them than to act. When police take his spear, treating it as a weapon rather than a tool, Charlie decides to leave the settlement and head back to the bush, the country he calls his Mother Country. There he means to live the old way and hold on to the culture he feels slipping away.
