Plot summary
José María is a teenager in a small town near Barcelona who begins to see herself as a woman, and her appearance shows that wish. Her father, a male chauvinist, is afraid of what he calls his son's softness and makes her chop wood. The household's reactions make her life harder. He takes her to a cabaret to put her among women, and there she sees Bibi, a transgender dancer, for the first time. After the show he tries to force her to have sex with a prostitute; she refuses and flees, feeling guilty. She runs to the city, hoping to be accepted as a woman, and finds work as a hairdresser.
