Plot summary
A charge of killing a client brings Scarlett, a street kid who lives off prostitution and drug dealing, to court. There she meets Tracy, a doctor's daughter facing drug possession and resisting arrest charges. Seated before a judge with other defendants, the two watch as one defendant acts out; when the judge orders a bailiff to restrain her, she slashes his throat with a concealed weapon, and a shoot-out erupts. Scarlett and Tracy escape with the others. Police, unaware the pair took no part in the shooting, give chase, and the two take refuge in a sewer. Tracy wants to turn back; Scarlett refuses, certain they will be blamed and unwilling to face prosecution, and pushes her on. Tracy's father, Dr. Freeman, tries to convince Lt. Speier that his daughter was not involved.
