Plot summary
Twelve boys aged eleven to sixteen of the Wild Boar soccer team and Ekkaphon Chanthawong, their twenty-five-year-old stateless assistant coach, are trapped deep inside the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Chiang Rai Province, northern Thailand. Water pump manufacturer Nopadol Niyomka finds bureaucratic requirements in his way. Retired Thai Navy SEAL Saman Kunan and Jim Warny, a Belgian cave diver and electrician based in Ireland, join divers from Britain, China, Canada and Finland, a United States Air Force major, a Thai rice farmer, a Buddhist monk and Thai officials. Volunteers and soldiers from many countries gather at the cave to bring the boys and their coach out.

- A scene showing water pump manufacturer Nopadol Niyomka held up by bureaucracy sparked heated online debate in Thailand, and Governor Narongsak Osottanakorn, who led the rescue, criticized Tom Waller for not covering the whole operation and for jokes attacking Thai civil servants; Waller replied that the Governor should have seen the film before criticizing it.
- Tom Waller's film was the first about the 2018 Tham Luang rescue to be released, while exclusive rights over the rescued boys' own stories had already been sold to Netflix.
- The film's cave scenes were largely shot in other caves in Thailand rather than the real one, and on a set that was built over a swimming pool.
- Most of the filming took place from October 2018 to January 2019, but Tom Waller was not allowed to film at the actual Tham Luang Nang Non cave until February.
