Plot summary
Carmen is seventeen and lives in a Romani community near Madrid, where she works at a street market alongside her family. The women she has known all marry and raise large families, and Carmen too is engaged, to Rafa. Lola is sixteen and also helps her family at the market. She is not like the other girls Carmen knows: she draws birds on walls, plans to go to a university and is drawn to women. Carmen and Lola become close, and what grows between them puts the two of them on a path toward rejection by their families and their community.
