Plot summary

New rules between the United Kingdom and the European Union were settled at the final hour, and the documentary sets the daily politics and the public feeling of the moment aside. Instead it gathers the views of academics, researchers and professional advisors who have made this subject their specialty, among them an Oxford tutor who once taught the former prime minister David Cameron and was asked for his advice before the referendum was put to voters. The documentary reaches further back as well, tracing the country's difficulties in the 1960s when it tried to enter the European Economic Community, and noting that a previous exit from Europe happened two centuries ago.
