Plot summary
On Hydra, a Greek island, Phaedra dives for sponges from the boat of her boyfriend Rhif, an immigrant from Albania. In the Aegean she comes across an ancient statue showing a boy riding a dolphin, a Greek work lost for roughly two thousand years and credited with the power to grant a wish. The find brings pride to Hydra, and Phaedra looks to sell the piece to the highest bidder. That brings her two rivals for her cooperation: Dr. James Calder, an archaeologist who would surrender the statue to the Greek government, and Victor Parmalee, a dealer in historic artifacts.
