Plot summary
Boya, a vampire, has slept in a Toronto basement for twenty-five years. A golf ball wakes him, and he takes a cab to a cemetery to collect his belongings from a grave. He lodges in a hotel near an all-night donut shop and drinks the blood of rats and pigeons rather than people. At the shop he meets Earl, a taxi driver in trouble with two criminals, and Molly, the waitress. Boya befriends Earl and falls in love with Molly. Rita, his former passion from 1969, misses her lost youth and has spent the years since trying to find him.
