Plot summary
Merrily We Roll Along is a 1981 Broadway musical, adapted from a 1934 play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. George Furth wrote the book, Stephen Sondheim supplied the music and lyrics, and Hal Prince directed. The production opened at the Alvin Theatre and ran for 16 performances. The documentary gathers the show's creators and its original cast for interviews. Rare rehearsal footage, much of it never shown before, accompanies their accounts. The documentary follows what the years since have brought to those performers, tracing a musical that has come to be regarded as a classic long after its first run.
