Plot summary
Elmo ranks among the most recognizable characters on children's television, while the man who performs him walks down the street unrecognized. The documentary traces his path from a childhood in Baltimore, Maryland, and an early career in puppetry there to his first meeting and later working relationship with the man who created Sesame Street and with a puppet maker. Fellow puppeteers, a co-founder of Sesame Workshop and others appear in interviews, and rare archival footage fills out the history of the show. Beyond performing, he produces and directs for Sesame Street and travels around the globe to train other puppeteers.
