Plot summary
Mia is expecting her first child, and her husband John finds a rare vintage doll in a white wedding dress as a gift for the nursery. One night the couple next door, the Higginses, are attacked, and the intruders break into John and Mia's house as well. Police shoot the man; the woman ends her life in the nursery, still holding the doll, and a drop of her blood sinks into its face. The two are named as Annabelle Higgins and her boyfriend, said to be part of a cult. Mia is ordered to stay in bed for the rest of her pregnancy; after she delivers a daughter, the family moves to an apartment. The doll turns up in one of their boxes, and strange things begin happening around Mia and the baby.
