Plot summary
Anna Boleyn comes home to England after years in France and lodges at the home of her uncle, the Duke of Norfolk. Her childhood sweetheart, Sir Henry Norris, is there as well, now a knight in the King's service. King Henry VIII would rather drink and chase women with his men than sit with his wife, Catherine. Anna is to join the Queen's ladies-in-waiting and be presented to her on the Queen's name day. The King fails to appear, and Catherine declines to receive anyone. He then arrives without warning, and the Duke hurries his niece from the chamber; the door shuts on her dress. The King frees her and wants her.
