Plot summary
At the Los Angeles Adventurers' Club, a narrator presents a filmed record of two men who went into Cambodia's jungle in 1912. Their aim is to clear up the vanishing of the million people of Angkor, a city that led the world in culture a thousand years before. In Phnom Penh the travelers watch the Royal Cambodian dancers and learn that a monkey-masked figure, the Prince of Apes, receives the princesses' dances. Local people who hear the men intend to reach Angkor, three hundred miles inland, refuse to rent boats, since they hold the jungle cursed. The men buy two boats instead. After fifteen days they stop at a native village and continue on foot. That night they watch a dancer in an ape skin perform before a fire.
