Plot summary
Jesse Harper is the best player on the Westfield Angels, a high school football team that has dropped 54 games in a row. His father Peter, once a high school football star, dies in an accident during a rainstorm, and a demoralized Jesse leaves the team. His younger brother Kevin argues that football has always mattered to Jesse and that he should be playing, and Jesse answers that he would come back only if the team began winning. Kevin then prays for angels to help. They arrive the next day, led by Al, and only Kevin can see them. Westfield keeps winning, and Kevin becomes the team's lucky charm, passing on to Coach Buck whatever the angels need.
