Plot summary
Molly Stewart, once a prostitute who has apparently given up law school, now works as a freelance photographer in New York. At an art show she takes a woman's photograph by accident and comes to believe the stranger is the mother who left her more than fourteen years ago. She also learns that she has a sister she never knew about, and that both the woman and the sister are tied to a dangerous criminal element. Molly travels to Los Angeles to find out whether the stranger really is her mother, and the search brings her into contact with a crime syndicate.
