Plot summary
In Tbilisi, Merab has spent years in the studio with Mary, his dancing partner at the National Georgian Ensemble. He and Mary rehearse the traditional steps together, and the company is where he hopes to build his future. His brother David is delinquent, and their father wants Merab to quit dancing and get an education instead. Then Irakli joins the group, a dancer with flawless form and a rebellious manner, and the place Merab has been working toward no longer looks certain. The two men compete for a spot in the ensemble, and Merab's first resentment of the newcomer gives way to desire. Whatever grows between them must stay hidden from the company and from Mary.

- Shooting in Georgia was so difficult that, because of prevalent homophobia there, the crew told onlookers the film was about a French tourist falling in love with Georgian culture, actors and locations later backed out, and the production crew received death threats and hired security on set.
- Director Levan Akin contacted lead actors Levan Gelbakhiani and Bachi Valishvili through social media, and both initially turned the roles down, worried about backlash in Georgia and how it would affect their future careers.
- Director Levan Akin said images of the 2013 Tbilisi anti-homophobia rally, where dozens of young protesters were violently attacked by thousands of counter-protesters from the Georgian Orthodox Church, inspired the film, and that he visited Tbilisi in 2016 to research it.
