Plot summary
Assembled entirely from archival material, the documentary gathers two decades of recordings of the monologist Spalding Gray. No narration was written for it and no new interviews were conducted; the film is cut from excerpts of his one-man shows and from interviews with him, along with home movies of him as an infant. He first performed Swimming to Cambodia, a one-man account of his experience making The Killing Fields in 1984, and from there he made the monologue his own, drawing on the most intimate parts of his life for shows that were vibrant, hilarious and moving. Music for the documentary was composed by his son.
