Plot summary
A general is wanted abroad for ethnic cleansing and other war crimes, but the Balkan country where he lives says it does not know where he is and resists pressure to hand him over. A retinue of loyalists keeps watch over him and keeps him safe as he goes about his days in a city where people recognize his face. When he tells his newly hired maid, Tanja, that he is lonely, the two begin to build a relationship. He treats her badly at first, and then the two settle into an awkward friendship. She becomes his one connection to the world beyond the rooms where he lives.
