Plot summary
Texas elects Ann Richards its governor, the first woman to hold the office, and the film traces the career behind that win. She governs as a liberal Democrat with a cool head and a sharp wit, intent on building what she calls the new Texas, one that includes people the state had overlooked. Her time in office places her among the country's most powerful and progressive governors. Then the 1994 campaign begins, and a conservative majority turns to a pro-business candidate, George W. Bush.
