Plot summary
Adam is ten years old. A year ago a car crash killed his older brother, and the household has grieved since. Adam blames himself for the death and feels he is alone in the world. Then he meets Abulele, one of the ancient monsters of local legend, said to be bear-sized and dangerous. This one is friendly and playful. Adam hides him from his parents, and the two get the better of a mean schoolteacher and the class bullies.
