Plot summary
Marco, a robust lowlander, takes work as a farmhand for the mountain farmer Alois in a remote Swiss Alpine village. The regulars at the local inn slowly warm to this iced tea drinker. Anna is a village woman raising her daughter Julia from a previous relationship. Some people doubt her new bond with Marco will last, but the two are certain and they marry. Their affection is gentle; they speak of it plainly. Trust deepens between them. Yet Marco soon appears to be losing command of his impulses more and more often.
