Plot summary
In a Calabrian town, relatives and friends of the Guerrasio family come together for a party marking the eighteenth birthday of Claudio and Carmela's oldest daughter. A friendly rivalry plays out between the birthday girl and her fifteen-year-old sister Chiara as the two compete on the dancefloor. A car blows up on their street that night, and Chiara sees her father running from it. By the following day he has disappeared, and Carmela carries on as if nothing has happened. The explanation she is given about his absence does not satisfy her, and she starts asking questions about her own family.
