Plot summary
Pancho Reyes is a business executive in Mexico City who has not spoken to the family he left behind in a small rural town for twenty years. He supports his wife Mari and their two children, and he wants nothing to do with his poor relatives. Then his grandfather dies, and his father Rosendo telephones repeatedly, insisting that Pancho come for the reading of the will. Mari pushes him to attend in case there is an inheritance. Pancho takes five days of leave and travels to the village with Mari, the children and the maid Lupita. The poverty they find horrifies them. At the reading, the grandfather leaves his land and property rights to Pancho alone, because Pancho is the only relative with a successful career.
