Plot summary
Aydın used to act and now owns a hotel at the top of a mountain in Cappadocia, along with properties he rents to local tenants. He writes a column for a local newspaper and researches the history of Turkish theater, hoping to write a book. His wife, Nihal, is much younger than he is and raises money for schools, a cause he has shown little interest in. His sister Necla, recently divorced, lives at the hotel. Driving to the village with his assistant Hidayet, Aydın has a window shattered by a stone thrown by İlyas, the son of İsmail, a tenant several months behind on his rent. A collection agency has already taken İsmail's television and refrigerator, and the police beat him when he resisted. İsmail's brother Hamdi, the local imam, brings the boy to Aydın to make amends.
