Plot summary
Emre leaves Ankara for Yaniklar, a small town in Anatolia, to take up the post of state prosecutor. On his arrival he watches the town's men chase and shoot a boar through the streets, and he tells the lawyer Şahin and the dentist that firing rifles among houses breaks the gun law. The mayor, Selim, treats the sinkholes opening around the town as a natural phenomenon, though the water supply is failing. Murat, editor of the local newspaper, introduces himself at the lake and recalls that Emre's predecessor left without goodbyes. A young woman named Pekmez is found raped and beaten, and her father Yavuz says the family has long kept silent about such abuse.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- In December 2022, after the film had already premiered at Cannes and Antalya, the Turkish General Directorate of Cinema demanded repayment of the production funding it had granted, giving no official reason; it was believed to relate to controversy over the film's LGBTQ+ themes.
- The film's water and sinkhole story has a real basis: Central Turkey has an increasing problem of sinkholes forming due to groundwater depletion, as there has been less precipitation.
