Plot summary
In Old Testament times, an idol maker named Herschel comes to believe that God has commanded him to travel to Egypt and lead his people out of slavery. He obeys, sure that he is the prophet chosen for the task, and finds Moses one step ahead of him, taking the credit. The account of his life is written on an ancient scroll found in Israel by Harvey and Zoey, two tourists. The scroll also parodies other biblical episodes, among them David and Goliath, Lot and his wife, and the miracles of Jesus, as Herschel tries to follow the path to God and keeps losing his way.
