Plot summary
The Hartmanns live in a large house in a well-off Munich suburb. Angelika has just retired as a school principal, and her husband Richard is an orthopedic surgeon. Their daughter Sofie, thirty-one, studies psychology; their son Philipp is a business lawyer going through a divorce, and he has a twelve-year-old son, Basti. At a refugee center where she donates used clothes, Angelika decides to take in a refugee. Richard and Philipp oppose the plan, while Sofie supports her mother. Angelika and Richard visit Bernd Bader, who runs the center, and agree to take in Diallo, a Nigerian in his twenties.
