Plot summary
Everyone calls the family matriarch Mamá Cora, an octogenarian widow with four grown children: Antonio, Sergio, Emilia and Jorge. She lives with Jorge, who is in financial trouble, and with his wife Susana, in a household that already lacks room and has constant generational conflicts. After Mamá Cora misunderstands Susana and ruins part of a meal Susana had prepared, Susana goes to Sergio's home, where the family is getting ready for a Sunday lunch in honor of Antonio and his wife Nora, who climbed socially and economically in unclear circumstances. Susana asks the others to take their mother in for a while, and none of them will.

- The film's dialogue spawned catchphrases and expressions that have since been absorbed into the everyday speech of both Argentina and Uruguay.
- Writer-director Alejandro Doria rewrote the script of the film adaptation to give Mamá Cora more lines, since the character had very few in the original play and its earlier TV version.
- The house where the action takes place, on Echenagucía St. in the Versalles neighborhood of Buenos Aires, was restored and declared Cultural Heritage of the city of Buenos Aires.
