Plot summary
Thale Berg, seventeen, is the new girl in the town where her mother Liv serves as a police officer; her stepfather and her younger sister Jenny, who is deaf, live with them. At a night-time outdoor party, a girl on the edge of the crowd is attacked in the dark. Thale tries to help, and the attacker slashes her shoulder before hauling the girl into the woods. The girl's body is found mutilated, and the coroner says a large animal attacked her. Lars Brodin turns up claiming the beast is a werewolf. Liv pays him no mind, though he hands her a silver bullet. Veterinary expert William Nordvaag says a wolf of unusual size may have done it. The mayor has Liv and police chief Eilert Sundas lead a hunting party after the creature.
