Plot summary
Su-rin is thirteen when her mother dies, and she moves to an island with her stepfather. She keeps to herself and to her imagination until Sung-min, a boy without parents, approaches her first, and the two of them build a private world with codes only they know. One day they go with other children into a forest cave, where they find a shining egg that local tales tie to a monster feeding on time, one that can turn a child into an adult in an instant. Su-rin tries to hold the boys back, but curiosity wins and they carry the egg outside. When she follows, her friends are gone. The police treat it as an abduction and no one believes her account of the egg. Then a man in his thirties comes forward and says that he is Sung-min.
